can anyone verify if 5:22 was a slam? if it was, are there penalties involved? My feeble knowledge of the complex and daunting bjj rules seems insufficient to understanding this particular match.

is jonathan from gracie barra phils or from a foreign-based team? First time ko sya makitang magcompete sa 'pinas.

i couldn't believe he got away from that slam. even his corner gave him a reprimand. his excuse was "he won't open his guard"

referee should have dq'd him.

you could tell he was slamming because he made himself land on his knees. had he intended to do a proper standing guard pass he would've kept his feet planted on the ground.

Jonathan is from here in Alberta in Canada, he has fought in many tournaments here as well and I think he is there in the Phils with his Pinay GF. Anyways, he trains under Arashi-Do martial arts (www.arashido.com) in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and Arashi-Do's BJJ lineage is under Prof.Sylvio Behring(www.francobehring.org). I've watched him a few times and he can be a jerk and aggressive in the wrong way. For example one time he fought one of our guys and after he got armbarred he proceeded to yell "FUCK!!!" over and over. He apologized after but I think him reacting the way he did shows his true colors.(Sore Loser)

good game though. jr santos deserves the MTF award.

looking at it and watching it again.. that american dude should have been dq'd i wonder if the ref after seeing the tape sees it that way

you may refer to the " refs forum " for this tough decision:

http://bjjphilippines.com/forum/index.php?topic=48.15

Here are other similar 'slams' to compare with, as reference:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GZ7_caGlMNg
(folwer vs. moraes, no DQ or penalties at all!)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0cZ90QbpHOc
(sunico vs.martinoli, automatic DQ)

again, it helps to share your input. if possible, you can voice your rules concerns at the "ref forum"

Weak move by pridham. Desperate and cowardly. That is clearly a slam. And one that merits a DQ. His lack of skill was pronounced here. But its all good cuz Ali Sulit owned him, and owned him good.

yeah ali owned that gringo real good

spell "technical"...
