peeps she tapped in the past comps should be proud because they can boast the fact that they were handled by a future mundial champion he he

Yeah, that guy's an asshole.

Congrats to May! It doesn't matter if its the white belt division or not. We've all seen how hard she's worked out on her game. We saw it all here in rollapalooza how far she's gone. inspiring naman talaga eh.

I'm pretty sure the guy you guys are speaking of is Mark Vives (http://newbreedchicago.com/nbv4/images/instructors_mark.jpg) of the Vives brothers (Miles Vives, BJJ Black belt is his brother) he is one of the founders of New Breed there in the Philippines. I'm in no way affiliated with New Breed but I think all he's trying to say is that as a white belt gold medalist you definetly should be proud of your accomplishments but the only ones that can be defined as a world BJJ champion are the black belts because they are at the highest level of the game or otherwise they are pros. It sort of similar to calling amateur boxers boxing world champions, when in fact guys like Manny Pacquiao, Miquel Cotto, Shane Mosley, etc are the only ones that can be called world champions because they are at the highest level of the sport. And if you look back at the thread he does say that May should be proud of herself because she did an excellent job at the mundials.By the way is May MASUDA (japanese last name) half or full japanese, even if she is only part japanese can we as Filipinos really claim her as one of OUR great fighters. I mean if foreigners hear her name, most especially japanese nationals I doubt they'll even think she's Filipino.

Look at guys like Mike Fowler, Marcelo Garcia, Leo Viera, etc. WORLD CLASS BLACK BELTS and when you get the chance to talk to them they are the coolest people you'll ever come across. These guys have no ego and are very humble. It's a shame we have guys like Mark Vives, brown belt palang kung umasal feel na feel amboy saksakan na ng angas at yabang. People like these are a disgrace to the true essence of martial arts. Beating up people in the dojo doesn't give you the right to act all high and mighty. Too bad your BJJ belt/skills can't take you very far in the real world.

wala namang pagmamalaki at pagdating dito kala mo big shot

Too bad May has teammates like these guys.

mark vives. i want to see you fight here BJJ here in the philippines. fight with true pinoy blood brown belts. stop the hating.

GB San Clemente, how sure are you that the comments you were referring to are those of May's teammates?

Im not totally familiar with this Vives guy...but i believe i came across that thread at pinoymma. Anyway, thats his opinion and i totally respect it...maybe thats his little way of defining what a "world champion" is...only Black belts.

But I beg to disagree...because I believe that most if not all the top Black Belt World Champions that we have today...were previously recognized as Brown, Purple or Blue Belt World Champions before they became Black belts. Im not sure if the White belt/Novice Worlds is just a new thing...but I think it should be given the same recognition. Besides, May is just relatively new in the Jiu jitsu competition scene...and for sure were gonna see more of her in the future. Peace :)

Basta eto alam ko - si May masipag. She loves bjj. At wala syang takot. Ang mga taong ganito malayo mararating. And I'm not her teammate. I'm from another team. I'm just one who's seen her develop throughout every comp she joins. She steps up eh.

Congrats to May. How come this page turned out as a hate page for Mark Vives?

Let me express my sincerest apologies if I have offended anyone in any manner concerning the post I placed on pinoymma.com. I was directed to this site to comment on the comments left concerning the post I made at pinoymma.com and find it unfortunate that these comments were made on a thread/article which should be congratulating a great achievement.

I was in no way attempting to offend anyone. I re-read my post there and felt that I was somewhat clear, but can also see how it could have been, and what it could be mistaken as being offensive.

One things for sure. May winning at the Mundials is definitely a big deal, she is to be congratulated by everyone and everyone should feel good about what she's accomplished. I, too, am happy to see that someone from other than North or South America, especially from the Philippines, had the ability, desire, work ethic, and attitude to go all the way and win it all. So to May again, congratulations and I hope to hear your name somemore as well as see you compete at either the Pan Ams, Worlds, etc.

As far as my post goes, it was not in any way shape or form directed to May or her accomplishment. What she's done is a very good thing.

Some may disagree with my opinion concerning what I actually posted as "leverage" did, and that's completely fine. I see your point too. But isn't that why they call them opinions?

If you guys have any questions about what I said and feel like I'm attacking anyone, please feel free to contact me and let me know. I'm more than happy to explain myself and don't mind doing so.

You guys can either email me directly at newbreedchicago@gmail.com, or message me at www.pinoymma.com.

And again, congrats to May.

Sincerely,

Mark Vives

I actually read the post in pinoymma... and i agree it could be interpreted in different ways. well anyway, it's good this clarifies things. on to the topic - may masuda surely inspires a lot of people here in the philippines with her accomplishment. it makes people realize that being able to achieve at an international level isn't too far away if you put your heart into it.

more power may!
